Simple Indian Sweet Recipes

Sweets are fun. Many people love them, some can't live without a daily sweet. Sweets also make a great gift. Whether it is to congratulate someone, or celebrate something sweets are usually most often used.
It is easy to buy sweets. But the charm of a home made sweet is different. A home made sweet gifted conveys a lot more than something bought off the shelf. Not to mention, it probably being healthier too.
Some sweets do take a lot of time to prepare and may not be easy for everyone. But here a couple of simple Indian sweet recipes. They are easy to make and fun to eat. Make then for yourself or as a gift to someone you care for. There is nothing like saying it with sweets, particularly if you made them yourself.
Fruit toffee
Fruit Toffee
Ingredients
Fruits:
apples - 2 nos
mangos - 4 nos
green plantains (bananas) -2 nos
wood apples - 4 nos
chikoos (sapotas) - 2 nos
plums - 4 nos
Others:
2 cups sugar, 20 grams liquid glucose, 1 cup butter, 1 teaspoon mixed fruit essence, cashew nuts - chopped, 50 gms milk powder and a few raisins.
Method:
1. Chop the fruits and semi boil the fruits (without adding water).
2. Grind the semi-cooked fruits to a pulp.
3. If you have 2 cups of fruit pulp, add 2 cups of sugar, 20 grams liquid glucose, 1-cup butter and one teaspoon mixed fruit essence. Stir well.
4. Add 50 gms milk powder to water and make a paste, so that it doesn’t form lumps. Add it to the fruit pulp.
5. Keep on stirring until it does not stick to the sides of the pan.
6. Add the fruit essence and food colour to it.
7. Meanwhile sauté the chopped cashew nuts and raisins in ghee.
8. Pour the fruit pulp on to a tray greased with butter on all sides. Garnish with the sautéed chopped cashew nuts and raisins. Use a knife to cut into tiny pieces.
Milk toffee
Milk toffee
Ingredients:
condensed milk - 1 tin
butter - 50 gms
cashew nuts - 2 table spoons
cocoa powder - ¼ cup
Method:
1. Mix all the ingredients in a pan and heat.
2. Keep the flame low.
3. Keep stirring the mixture well until it no longer sticks to the side of the pan.
4. Pour it onto to a tray
5. Use a Knife to cut into cubes.
Vanilla cake - 2 colour
Ingredients:
maida flour - 3 cups
sugar - 5 cups
custard powder - ½ cup
cashew bits - ½ cup
food colour - 2 pinches
water - 1 ½ cup
ghee - 1 cup
Method :
1. In a frying pan, add sugar and water to prepare thick sugar syrup. Use a spoon to test the thickness of the syrup; it should form 2-string level. Set the sugar syrup aside once it thickens.
2. Chop the cashew nuts.
3. Heat ghee in another pan and sauté cashew nut bits. Add maida flour till brown. Add custard powder.
4. Add the ghee mixture to the sugar syrup. Put on stove over low flame. Mix all the ingredients well and keep stirring every now and then for 10 minutes.
5. When the mixture attains the consistency of a ball shaped dough, separate the mixture into two portions. Pour one portion on to a tray greased with butter.
6.Add Food colour of your choice to the other part of the mixture. Stir well. Then pour it on top of the first layer. Allow to cool.
7. Use a knife to cut into cubes.
